Hana moved quickly, looping the rope around the tree, pulling it tight, and tying a knot. Once satisfied it would hold, she called down, “Peter, the rope’s secure. Start handing up the creatures one by one. I’ll make sure they’re safe.”
“Got it! Here comes the first one!” Peter’s voice echoed back from the depths. Hana’s breath caught as a small, furry creature appeared, cradled carefully in Peter’s hands. He’d fashioned a makeshift sling from his jacket to carry them. As he pulled the animal closer, Hana reached down and gently lifted it to safety, her heart racing with relief as the terrified creature was finally out of harm’s way.
