Michael Richards is best known for his role on Seinfeld as Cosmo Kramer which earned him a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor. He started as a stand-up comedian and went on to appear in several productions including his own sitcom on NBC. After Seinfeld wrapped up he went back to his stand-up comedy roots. However, Richards caused outrage following an incident in 2006 when he initiated a racial-laced expletive tirade in the midst of a performance. He had to announce that he was retiring the next year after the media coverage and backlash he received proved too much to handle. Richards eventually returned to TV in 2013, on the sitcom Kirstie.
