The dolphins that were the parents were in agony, crying and swimming around in the ocean. They did not have to possess the anatomy of hands and thumbs to help their calf. Rob and his workmates stood around looking at the situation play out. The air was thick with tension.
With remarkable technical skill and precision, the vet was able to use forceps to pull the piece of plastic out. The dolphin calf could breathe now! It was overjoyed as it swam back to the adult dolphins. Before they all swam away, the bull put on a performance of appreciation for Rob as he had done so before.
