Cheech Marin – Chicano Art
Cheech Marin used the earnings he got from his comedy days to feed his passion for art. He assembled a pretty decent collection of Chicano paintings with 700 pieces. He has works from artists like Carlos Almaraz, Gilbert “Magu” Lujan, Gronk, and Frank Romero.
Marin is generous with his collection and frequently lends out pieces for exhibitions at various institutions. He’s even in the midst of setting up a museum to house his collection, receiving a $9.7 million grant from the state of California. Marin teamed up with the Riverside Art Museum and raised an additional $3 million for the institute scheduled to open in 2020.
