Staying Vigil
Once Mariesa and Chris arrived home, they cleaned out a spare bedroom, turning it into a cozy space for Storie. They set up a doggy bed with lots of pillows and blankets. They also adjusted the room temperature and closed the blinds. Storie had the entire room to herself.
But Chris and his wife had trouble falling asleep that night. They each took turns checking to see how their dog was doing. Somehow they were wishing they would walk into the room and find Storie in labor. But they waited in vain. And they soon drifted off into restless sleep.
