Richard Branson – $100 Million, Necker Island

Richard Branson initially assessed Necker Island as a potential buyer despite knowing that he couldn’t afford it in 1978. The British Virgin Islands trip was meant to impress the women that would later become his wife. According to Business Insider, the uninhabited 74-acre Necker Island was listed for $5 million by Lord Cobham.
Branson offered a modest $100,000 before the tour ended. A few months later, the owner contacted Branson, and an asking price of $180,000 was sealed. Branson spent another $10 million to turn the island into a private resort. In 2020, Branson’s island is evaluated at around $100 million by Farhad Vladi, an expert conferring with Bloomberg.
